Greensboro, N.C. – When thinking about the impact of our staff on students, it’s easy to immediately reflect on the work of our teachers in the classroom. While that is certainly a crucial piece of the puzzle, our students’ educational journey is not complete without the work of all our staff.

At Pearce Elementary, Lead Custodian Jalil Faucett takes pride not only in a clean school, but also in building relationships with the students he serves.

Kim Schubert, a counselor at Pearce, wrote, “Mr. Jay truly exceeds his required duties at Pearce Elementary, recognizing that the most important work for everyone is about the kids. Recently, I was working with a student who was hesitant to go to class; he just wouldn't budge. As Mr. Jay was cleaning the hallway, he noticed how long we had been outside of the classroom, and he checked in. He took the time to listen to this student's concerns and shared his own stories related to the situation. I really appreciated how he noticed a situation and stepped up to help."

“Another way Mr. Jay helps is with the Sharing Fridge. It stores uneaten, unopened cafeteria food from student meals to be shared with those who are hungry. He helps collect food and also offered to be part of a video our student council will use to educate all classes about the Sharing Fridge."

“Beyond the things he does, Mr. Jay is just a really good person - kind, funny, responsible, and always willing to lend a hand. We are so lucky to have him at Pearce!”

The impact Faucett makes on students and staff does not go unnoticed, earning him the nomination for Employee of the Month for March. With a staged coffee spill, Faucett entered the cafeteria to the roaring cheers of students and the news of his nomination.

Faucett received a $50 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of March, his photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices, at Pearce Elementary and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
